This music centre for school children in the Hull area has become a national exemplar of facilities of this kind. The City of Hull music sercice offers music support to all primary, secondary and special schools in Hull and also to further education colleges. The Albemarle Music Centre is now housed in a Holder Mathias–designed £3m purpose–built facility as part of St Stephen´s in the city centre. Built on three floors, it is home to the music service and more than 600 young musicians who visit each week.

The auditorium is large enough to accomodate a full–size symphony orchestra. It has retractable raked seating (electrically operated) holding 164 people and a further 80 audience chairs are available when the stage alone is being used for a performance.
