£5mThe new Orthopaedic Centre at Llandough Hospital, Penarth comprises a two–storey wing of 12,600 sq ft per floor that was built to replace temporary accommodation. Holder Mathias designed a comptemporary building which provides state–of–the–art facilities for NHS patients in the Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust.
The ground floor is given over predominantly to out-patient care while on the first floor are four complete operating suites including laminar air-flor specialist theatres, preparation, scrub and anaesthetic rooms and other out-patient support areas, reception and overnight-stay beds.
Particular attention has been paid to making the facility easy to clean to reduce the possibility of MRSA infection - an area of concern for all hospitals.
