Holder Mathias Architects was commissioned by Haven Health Properties Limited to evolve a concept for the development of Primary Care Resource Centres throughout Wales. The first opportunity was identified in Port Talbot.
A design strategy was required to respond to key principles of integrating service delivery and multi agency working. Representatives from the GP practices, local authority, Primary Care Trust, Council for Voluntary Services, the local Pharmacy Committee and local Dental Committee attended workshops, the outcomes from which formed a basis for evolving the strategy.
A range of other key objectives were established relating to site context, the requirement for a landmark building, the need to create a sense of community within the building and the adoption of passive environmental policies.
