Every year Holder Mathias holds a design review where we look at all the projects we have undertaken in the previous 12 months, and through an objective assessment look at the quality achieved. The review looks not only at design quality, but also at sustainability, client satisfaction and how well the project has been carried out in accordance with our Quality Assurance system.

This year’s review again saw an overall increase in the quality of our work. Six very different projects made the shortlist, but even beyond the finalists there were others that were singled out for special mention, including the St Stephen’s, Hull project, of which the Albemarle Music Centre is a part, made it through to the end. Alongside Albemarle were two masterplanning projects – Neath Town Centre and Hereford Town Centre, another arts project – The ATRiuM  in Cardiff, Mirage on the Marina – a residential development in Portishead and Tothill Street – the up–market office refurbishment in London now occupied by the House of Commons.

The judging panel was chaired by John Punter, Professor of Urban Design at the Cardiff University School of City and Regional Planning and a Member of the Design Commission for Wales. The overall winner of the design award went to The ATRiuM with the Albemarle Music Centre a very close second.
