Regeneration specialist Centros, the development manager for the second phase of Coppergate in York, has appointed the architects and professional advisers to the scheme, paving the way for the next stage of the project.

Leading architectural firms CZWG and Holder Mathias will collaborate on designs for the scheme, while property consultants King Sturge will provide both leasing/development consultancy and planning advice.

CZWG and Holder Mathias are run by internationally renowned architects Piers Gough and Peter Mathias respectively, who have worked together on a range of major schemes.

Richard Wise, chief executive of Centros, says: “We are keen to press on with developing plans and ideas for this strategically important site and these appointments enable us to move to the next level. We have appointed CZWG and Holder Mathias on a joint basis in order to capture the design flair of CZWG with the considerable mixed–use knowledge of Holder Mathias. I have no doubt that a stunning design to complement central York will emerge from our design workshops with the council. Both architectural practices are highly collaborative by nature, which is important when dealing with a site as sensitive as this.

Peter Mathias of Holder Mathias Architects says: “We’re really pleased to be working on another joint venture with CZWG. The diverse talents both practices bring to our working relationship create an exciting and dynamic working environment. We are sure our experience working together on the £145m regeneration of Barnsley Markets, as well as the £250m YES! Leisure and visitor destination project in the Rother Valley Country Park, will ensure this scheme is a major success.”
