Forming part of the overall Cardiff City Football Club redevelopment, the new facility is able to host IAAF certified athletics events and provides accommodation and facilities to rival any in the UK and Europe. The building is bespoke and was designed by Holder Mathias in a collaborative manner with the Council and development team to provide a contemporary replacement for the old venue.

The development comprises a 2,500 seat grandstand with 35,000sq ft of mixed use accommodation underneath, 9 lane IAAF track and inner field, artificial training pitch, external throws area and natural grass pitches. The scheme provides a new landmark at the gateway to the wider development and the approach to Cardiff Bay from the west.
