£125mHolder Mathias won a Rank Group design competition to develop its Oasis Holiday Village concept. This was in response to the Center Parcs holiday villages that were being introduced to the UK for the first time. Oasis Lakeland in Cumbria (now known as Oasis Whinfel) was the first of a programme of three that were proposed. The development is set in a one thousand acre pine forest on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Oasis Whinfel is in effect a small town for 4500 guests. It has a range of art, leisure and sports facilities and occupies an area of 400 acres. Holder Mathias developed the concept, masterplanned the development and led the design team throughout the project. The £125m project took two years to build, winning the DETR Quality in Construction Award. Center Parcs purchased the village in 2001.
