Holder Mathias Architects was commissioned by Bristol based Westmark Developments Ltd, to prepare alternative designs for this landmark building at the head of the dock in Port Marine, Portishead. It was important to meet all the local planning authority’s concerns at this stage with a view to negating the need for Westmark to begin an appeal process on their original proposals, prepared by other parties.

The cascading design incorporates 55 high specification contemporary residential units with two integral commercial units at ground floor level providing the opportunity for specialist retail and cafe/restaurant offers.

The brief from Westmark required the proposals to exhibit urban and architectural design excellence, as well as present a timeless quality and a memorable visual impression. They were also to achieve Eco Homes accreditation.
