The Barnsley Markets project is one that Holder Mathias, with Piers Gough of CZWG as a partner, won in competition. The project is one of the first elements of regeneration of Barnsley.

This is a genuine town centre mixed use project consisting of a new department store, 4 MSU´s, a wide range of other shopping units and A3 uses, 14–screen cinema, 110 apartments and a new 150,000 sq ft market.  The replacement market, extended shopping and car park have been integrated, linking at various levels existing streets and buildings.  Ease of movement between parts and permeability of the whole still allows the different atmospheres to pervade distinctive parts of the development.  Planning permission has been granted and a "start of site" is expected in 2013.
