This BAA McArthurGlen development is the first in Europe to combine a designer outlet centre with a major integrated leisure element. Holder Mathias Architects’ design provided ´streets´ of up to 96 retail units either side of covered walkways. The units are linked directly to a food court, multiplex cinema, covered play areas and parking for 2,000. Built on the highest plateau of this multi–level site, its spectacular design with a 30 ft prismatic glass block tower feature and angled roof, has created a dramatic landmark. The scale and structure of both the cinema and a series of tensile canopies which mark the entrances to the development provide a spectacular and festival–like visual statement, clearly visible from the M4.
